Since you rely on your heating system to keep you warm during Dallas, GA winters, you may have concerns when you hear unusual sounds from your furnace. The four sounds listed below should spur you to take action and ask for help from an HVAC technician.
1. Whistling
Debris can restrict air flowing through your system, resulting in a high-pitched whistling noise. If you hear whistling, you may need a new air filter, or your system may require a maintenance to clear out any obstructions.
2. Banging
On occasion, you may hear one or two banging or popping noises when your furnace turns on due to temperature changes. If you hear more than a few banging sounds, your heating system may have blower issues or loose components in your ductwork. Dirt may also have built up on the burners, interfering with ignition and causing safety concerns.
3. Scraping
If it sounds like metal is scraping against metal inside your furnace, you should reach out for professional assistance. The ball bearings that help your blower motor and fan may have worn down, or the blower wheel may have shifted out of position. These situations require a technician to assess the furnace and replace or adjust parts as necessary.
4. Humming
A persistent humming from your furnace may indicate a problem with the blower fan or its bearings. An HVAC technician can address the source of the humming so that the blower fan can move smoothly.
