In Marietta, GA it’s not hard to tell if your HVAC system is in need of a tune-up or repair, but sometimes it may be harder to decide when you should replace it altogether. These are the warning signs that it’s better to replace rather than repair an HVAC system.

1.Higher Energy Bill

A rising energy bill is a sign that your HVAC system needs replacing. A repair can help with energy efficiency, but if your bill remains high, it’s usually a sign that it’s time to look for another HVAC system.

2.Odd Noises

Grinding and squealing noises from your unit are not normal and should be tended to. The problem could be a damaged part, or it could just be a sign of age. If you hear odd sounds coming from your HVAC system, find the source of the problem and call a professional right away. Sometimes repair work is needed, but oftentimes it needs to be entirely replaced due to its age.

3.Strange Smells

Strange smells are often indicative of HVAC problems. The smells could show minor problems, or the wire insulation burning out. Ignoring the smell, thinking it will go away, will only lead to costly repairs. It’s important to find the root of the problem. It could mean that you need to replace your HVAC system.

4.10th Anniversary

Ten years is the average amount of time HVAC systems will last before they show signs of malfunction. How well you maintain the unit will play a big role in how long the unit will last, but every HVAC system will break down at some point or another. If you notice problems with your HVAC system that’s more than ten years old, it’s likely and may be more cost effective to replace rather than keep repairing.

5.Frosty Coils

If your air conditioning unit has frost-covered coils that quickly ice over again after being thawed, the problem could be dirty coils, low refrigerant, or a blockage with the air flow somewhere. Check to make sure all you are free of obstructions. If you don’t find any blockages, shut off the unit and call in a professional.
