With a new year just around the corner, now is a great time for Smyrna, Georgia, homeowners to tackle that to-do list. Here are a few of our top tips for prepping your home for 2017.

Winter Prep

Preparing your home for winter may not be as crucial in Georgia as some other parts of the United States, but it’s still a good idea to do some minor upkeep this season. Fall and winter weather can do a number on our homes, so stay one step ahead of Mother Nature by cleaning out your gutters, weatherstripping your doors and windows, and installing surge protectors for all your appliances and electronics.

Check Your Air-Quality and Temperature Devices

Now is a great time to check your thermostat and any air-quality devices to ensure everything is working properly. Humidifiers and air purifiers can become breeding grounds for bacteria, so clean them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. You’ll also want to test your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

Clean Out the Clutter

With a new year on the horizon, you may be considering tossing any junk that no longer serves you. Cleaning out the clutter is not only good for reducing stress, but it’s also great for improving air quality. Think about it: The less clutter you have sitting around the house, the fewer nooks and crannies there are to collect dust.

Add Greens

Indoor plants are essential to any indoor living space. Not only do they look great, but they also serve as Mother Nature’s air purifiers. Keeping a few potted plants around the house helps cleanse the air and filter out volatile organic compounds. Some of our favorites include garden mums, Boston ferns, spider plants, and peace lilies.

Getting your home ready for a new year doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In fact, making small improvements here and there goes a long way toward reducing your energy costs and making your home feel more inviting. For all your 2017 HVAC needs, call E.
