History of Dunwoody, GA

The city of Dunwoody was named for Major Charles Dunwoody. Development of the community traces to the 1830s, although historic buildings predate this time. In fact, some of the oldest buildings, including an early church and an early public school, continue in use today. The community prospered with railroad development in the early 1900s, and that prosperity continued after the railroad was closed. The community is a northern suburb of Atlanta, and it did not incorporate as an official city until 2008.
